My name is Michelle (named by my father after the Beatles
song, or at least that's the story my mom told growing up!) I am
mama to an angel, a birth advocate, and a conscious member of
the planet :)
I have been a doula since 2004 and witnessing birth has forever
changed me. Through the births I've attended I've learned so
much about myself, life, and the power we have as women to
create change in the world! I am convinced now of a phrase
I've long heard, "Peace on Earth Begins with Birth". Sound too
peace & love - crunchy for you?! Yeah well maybe it is! I just
know that when a woman gives birth powerfully and bonds
strongly with her baby, it is the beginning of something
magical...
I am a passionate advocate of breastfeeding, mentoring women
in pregnancy, and supporting the integration of birth and
motherhood. I became a lactation counselor in 2006, a
childbirth educator in 2007, and an Avatar Master in 2007.
In 2006 I also was initiated into motherhood! I gave birth to
my sweet Luna Jane gently and safely in my home. She was
born on a new moon surrounded by loving, skillful women, her
papa, our dog, and warm water! Becoming a mother has been
an awesome and intense adventure. My sweet girl is the most
beautiful reflection I could have imagined!
Although I chose to give birth in this way I recognize that it is
not the choice for everyone. My experience has allowed me to
support birthing women in all settings (hospital, birth center,
home).
I recently began what feels like a new chapter in my life. I
began my midwifery studies in Jan 2010. In a few years I will
be able to serve my community in this most awesome way! It
has taken me several years to get to this point and finally I'm
grateful to be embracing a larger, more integrated sense of self.
