Philosophy & Guiding Principles
Guiding Principles:
  • Birth is a rite of passage, not a medical emergency
  • Our bodies know how to give birth
  • Minimal intervention usually results in the best outcomes for mother
    & baby
  • The mother-baby bond is best established immediately after birth
  • Breast-milk is a baby's perfect food
  • Women who are supported and empowered transition more easily into
    motherhood
  • Childbirth preparation is about self-discovery, not assimilating
    obstetric information
  • "Peace on Earth Begins with Birth" and the mother-baby bond

The statements above reflect the underlying philosophy of the support and
education I provide.  These are general principles that I believe each mother
and baby should be given the opportunity to experience.  That being said, I
also believe that medical intervention has its place and I am grateful that we
live in a society where it is readily available.

My intention is always to empower families to co-create their experience.  I
feel it's important to understand medical procedures and protocol in order to
make informed decisions about your care and the care of your baby.  I also
feel it's important that women communicate openly with their care
providers by asking questions and letting them know what they want/don't
want for their bodies and babies.  I will appreciate and honor a family's
choices and will support you in having YOUR idea of the best experience
possible.

My highest intention is to support women mentally, emotionally, and
spiritually through this time of immense transformation.
