Applying henna to a pregnant belly is an ancient practice that is believed to bring about a healthy and easy birth. In some cultures this practice is believed to bless and protect mother and baby during labor.
Henna applied during pregnancy is a way for a mother-to-be to celebrate and embrace her beautiful, changing figure. It is typically done during the last few months of pregnancy. Pregnancy henna or mehndi is a soothing, calming ritual that honors the mother-to-be during what may be a physically challenging time in her pregnancy.
During a pregnancy henna session the mother-to-be is encouraged to take that time to relax and bring her awareness to the life growing inside her. This can be done during a private in-home appointment or as part of a baby shower or Blessingway. I recommend that a few days after your session you have photographs taken so that you can capture this beautiful time in your pregnancy.
Although the henna paste I make contains all natural ingredients (fresh henna powder, lemon, sugar, and lavender essential oil), please check the Contraindications link to be sure henna is for you.
